Modifications for a 1995 Mitsubishi Lancer GLXi 1.8i with 4g92 SOHC?
A few questions:
1. Will a greddy E-manage EMS replace the stock EMS in this car?
2. Will the following parts fit the car and what advantages will they give:
- Performance Spark plugs
- Forged Pistons
- Larger Injectors
- Metal head gasket
- High flow fuel pump
- K&N Pod air filter opposed to K&N box shaped filter
- Higher flow headers
- Port and polish (Please explain what this is)
- Bigger throttle body
If you could give a rough estimate of costs involved it would be appreciated

1. The G-reddy EMS will replace the stock unit.
But it will need to be programmed to your engine.
2. Every one will provide an improvement over stock.
Plugs are easy and cheap. $5.00/each x4
Pistons are not. $75.00/each x4.
They require complete overhaul of the engine. $1500.00 and up at a shop.
Injectors are easy but not cheap. $80.00/each x4
Throttle body is easy, but not cheap. $350.00
A metal head gasket not cheap $250.00 or easy. $600.00 shop rate.
Air filter w/ cold air intake system. $300.00 You install.
Header. $350.00 You install.
Port and polish of the head is expensive and not really worth it for a SOHC system.
15 years ago I did a Datsun L-18 SSS head and it was $1100.00 just for the machine shop work. Ported, manifold and gasket matched, larger valves and seats and guides, tower shimmed and extrusion honed.
Porting matches all the intake and exhaust runner volumes to the same figure. Also smooths all curves in the runners to maximize air flow.
This made a lot of power on a L-20B engine, but the total price was over $4000.00 after the bottom end was done.
A performance engine is a combination of parts working as a unit. All of it must be tuned together to work as desired.
If you have the money to spend on it, get a DOHC engine and start spending there.
